Trader Joe's $7.4 Million Receipt Settlement: Shoppers Could Get $102

Trader Joe's has agreed to a $7.4 million settlement over receipts that allegedly printed too much of customers' card information.

The lawsuit, Keim v. Trader Joe's Co., claims that between March 5, 2019, and July 19, 2019, certain Trader Joe's locations issued receipts that displayed both the first six and last four digits of customers' credit or debit card numbers. Under the Fair and Accurate Credit Transactions Act (FACTA), retailers are supposed to limit how much card information appears on a receipt to reduce the risk of identity theft.

Trader Joe's has denied any wrongdoing but agreed to settle to avoid the cost and uncertainty of ongoing litigation.

You may qualify if you meet all three of these criteria: you used your own credit or debit card at a Trader Joe's store between March 5, 2019, and July 19, 2019; you received a receipt that showed the first six and last four digits of your card number; and you are the primary account holder on that card.

The settlement class includes approximately 757,663 unique card numbers that were affected by the receipt formatting issue. Settlement administrators have already contacted eligible class members with a claim ID and PIN needed to file.

How much could you get?

Eligible shoppers who file a valid claim could receive an estimated $102.45. The exact amount depends on how many people end up filing — the fewer claims, the bigger each payout. Unclaimed funds will go to the Identity Theft Resource Center.

How to file

You have until June 9, 2026 to file your claim. You'll need the claim ID and PIN from the settlement notice you received. Claims can be submitted online or by mailing a form to: Keim v. Trader Joe's Co. Settlement Administrator, P.O. Box 301134, Los Angeles, CA 90030-1134.

The final approval hearing is scheduled for August 10, 2026, and payments are expected to go out roughly 45 days after that — meaning checks could start arriving around late September 2026.
