Tinder Agrees to $60.5 Million Settlement Over Age Discrimination Allegations

Tinder has agreed to a $60.5 million settlement to resolve a class action lawsuit that accused the dating app of charging older users more than younger users for premium subscriptions.

The lawsuit, originally filed in 2015, alleged that Tinder violated California's Unruh Civil Rights Act by offering discounted pricing to users under 29 while charging older users full price for Tinder Plus and Tinder Gold. More than 260,000 users are expected to be eligible for a payout.

Tinder did not admit any wrongdoing as part of the settlement.

Do you qualify?

You may be eligible if you meet all of the following:

  • You purchased Tinder Plus or Tinder Gold in California

  • You were 29 or older at the time of purchase on or after March 2, 2015 — or 28 or older on or after March 2, 2016
  • You were charged a higher price due to your age

How much could you get?

Payouts will vary. Each eligible class member receives a share of the $60.5 million fund based on how much they paid for Plus or Gold subscriptions — so the more you paid, the larger your share.

How to file

If you received a class notice, you just need to choose your preferred payment method on the settlement website. If you didn't receive a notice, you'll need to submit a verification form with your name, contact info, subscription date, state of purchase, age at the time, and your estimated total amount paid (with documentation if you have it).

You have until August 18, 2026 to file your claim or specify how you'd like to receive your money.

Note: The deadline to opt out or object to the settlement is April 8, 2026. The final approval hearing is scheduled for May 20, 2026 in Los Angeles County Superior Court.
