Porsche Hit with Class Action Over Alleged Repair Monopoly: Owners Forced to Use Dealers

Porsche is facing a class action lawsuit alleging the automaker designed its vehicles so only Porsche-authorized dealers can perform repairs and maintenance, forcing owners to pay dealership prices instead of using cheaper independent shops.

The lawsuit was filed in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Georgia by Fleet Salvage Systems, a Florida-based company that owns a Porsche Cayenne. According to the complaint, Fleet Salvage brought the Cayenne to an independent repair shop in June 2025 for a routine oil and filter change. The shop completed the work, but couldn't reset the oil life indicator because only Porsche dealers have access to the software needed to clear the code. Fleet Salvage was allegedly forced to pay a dealer to finish the job.

The complaint alleges Porsche intentionally designed its electronic control units to lock out independent mechanics from diagnostics, calibration, coding, and software tools needed for routine service. The lawsuit claims this gives Porsche-authorized dealers a 100% market share on repairs for affected vehicles, allowing them to charge what the complaint calls "supra-competitive prices."
