G.Skill Agrees to $2.4M Settlement After Lawsuit Claims RAM Speeds Were Deceptively Advertised

G.Skill has agreed to pay $2.4 million to settle a class action lawsuit alleging it deceptively advertised the speeds of its DDR4 and DDR5 desktop memory products.

If you bought G.Skill desktop RAM — think Trident Z, Ripjaws, Flare X, or Sniper X — in the United States between January 31, 2018 and January 7, 2026, you may be eligible for a cash payment. No proof of purchase is needed for up to five products.

What the Lawsuit Alleges

The class action claimed that G.Skill advertised "rated speeds" on its DDR4 and DDR5 desktop memory kits that customers could only actually achieve by enabling XMP profiles or making manual BIOS adjustments. Plaintiffs alleged they were led to believe the advertised speeds worked out of the box with no changes to their PCs.

The lawsuit, filed as Hurd et al. v. G.Skill International et al. in the U.S. District Court for the Central District of California, alleged violations of consumer protection statutes and breach of express warranty.

G.Skill denies all wrongdoing and maintains its products were properly labeled and advertised. The court has not ruled in favor of either side.

What You Can Claim

Eligible class members will receive a pro rata share of the $2.4 million settlement fund. The exact payout depends on how many people file claims and how many qualifying products each person claims. Note that $295,000 has been allocated to settlement administration costs and up to $800,000 to attorneys' fees, so the actual pool available for payouts will be smaller.
