Ford Recalls 422,000 Trucks and SUVs: Windshield Wipers Could Break and Detach

Ford is recalling more than 422,000 trucks and SUVs because the windshield wiper arms could break or detach while you're driving.
The recall covers 422,613 vehicles, including 2021-2023 Ford Expeditions, 2021-2023 Lincoln Navigators, and 2022-2023 Super Duty trucks (F-250, F-350, F-450, F-550, and F-600). Super Duty trucks make up the bulk of the recall at roughly 326,000 units, followed by about 79,000 Expeditions and 17,000 Navigators. All affected vehicles were built at Ford's Kentucky truck plant between October 2021 and December 2022.
The defect comes from the wiper arm's latch retention plate, which was allegedly assembled incorrectly at the supplier. According to the recall notice, that flaw can strip the splines that hold the wiper arm in place — meaning your wipers could behave erratically, stop working, or fly off the windshield entirely. Ford estimates around 3% of the recalled vehicles, roughly 12,700, actually have the defect. The recall notice warns that wiper failure reduces visibility and increases the risk of a crash.

How to check if your truck is affected
Ford started mailing interim notification letters to owners on April 13. A second letter will go out once the full repair is finalized. Dealers will inspect and replace the wiper arms for free.
You can check your VIN on the NHTSA website to see if your vehicle is part of the recall. Ford's recall number is 26S24.
There is no class action lawsuit over this recall yet, but recalls like this one — especially when they involve safety defects on hundreds of thousands of vehicles — sometimes turn into one.
