Dollar General $8.5 Million Overcharging Settlement Now Open for Claims

Dollar General has agreed to an $8.5 million settlement over allegations that the discount retailer charged customers more at the register than the price advertised on store shelves.

The settlement covers all consumers in the United States who paid more (or less) than the shelf price for merchandise at any Dollar General store between October 10, 2016 and November 19, 2025. According to the class action lawsuit, the pricing mismatches allegedly violated consumer protection laws. Dollar General has not admitted any wrongdoing.

The final approval hearing took place on March 19, 2026 in New Jersey Superior Court. If the court grants final approval and there are no appeals, Dollar General will deposit the settlement funds within 30 days and checks will be mailed to approved claimants.

This isn't the first time Dollar General has faced scrutiny over pricing accuracy. Pennsylvania's Attorney General separately reached a $1.55 million settlement with Dollar General after an investigation found the company failed more than 40% of pricing accuracy inspections between 2019 and 2023.

Who qualifies

If you shopped at any Dollar General store in the U.S. during the class period (October 10, 2016 through November 19, 2025) and were charged a different price at the register than what was displayed on the shelf, you may be eligible.

What you can get

There are two types of benefits. First, if you have documented proof of an overcharge — like a receipt, a dated photo showing the price mismatch, or evidence that you filed a complaint with Dollar General or a government agency — you can receive $10 or the amount of the actual overcharge, whichever is higher. You can claim up to two overcharges per household, for a maximum of $20.

Second, all class members are eligible for a $3 in-store discount on a purchase of at least $10 during a two-day redemption window at any Dollar General store. The dates for that window haven't been announced yet.

How to file your claim

You have until April 13, 2026 to file your claim. You can submit it online or by mail. If you received a settlement notice, you can use your notice ID and confirmation code to file. If you didn't receive one, you can still file directly through the settlement website.
