Disney Sued Over Facial Recognition at Disneyland and California Adventure

Disney is facing a $5 million class action lawsuit over the facial recognition technology it rolled out at Disneyland and Disney California Adventure earlier this year.

The lawsuit was filed May 15 by Riverside County resident Summer Christine Duffield after she visited the Anaheim parks on May 10 with her minor children. According to the complaint, Disney's entrance system scans guests' faces and converts them into biometric identifiers without clearly telling visitors it's happening or how the data gets used.

Disney quietly added the technology to park entrances in April 2026. The system photographs guests as they walk in and matches their face against the photo tied to their ticket or annual pass. Disney says biometric data is deleted within 30 days and that guests who don't want to be scanned can use separate entrance lanes — marked with a small slashed-silhouette icon.

The lawsuit alleges that's not enough. It argues guests should have to give written consent before their faces are scanned, not be forced to find an opt-out lane on their own. The complaint specifically calls out the collection of biometric data from children, who legally can't consent the way adults can.

Disney has denied the allegations.

Who's affected: Anyone who visited Disneyland or Disney California Adventure since April 2026 may have had their face scanned at the entrance. The proposed class could include millions of guests, including minors.

What you could get: The lawsuit seeks at least $5 million in damages plus a court order forcing Disney to get written consent before scanning anyone. There's no settlement yet, no claim form, and no payout amount per person. This case is in its earliest stage.

Heads up: No legitimate claim site exists for this case yet. If you see one asking you to file now, it's not real.
